This was one of my first shots at useing Sculpey polymer clay. I wish I had a better picture of him but this is what I have from before I tried to "Bake" him. I didn't want to deal with the smell of sculpey that people complain about plus I didn't want to contaminate my oven so I did something I read about here [link] it was to boil your sculpture instead of bake it. People talked about how it worked without the smell and you didn't have to worry about any burnt edges. I tried it on this poor little guy (I boiled my cute little critter!) and he did get hard but the colors are no longer as viberant or nice.
He is about 2 inches tall and really wants a cookie
Boiling was an interesting experience and works really well on light colored clays but now I'm baking everything in my oven by putting it in on of my pottery vases and sealing the top with aluminum foil
BO=oiling is best for translucents as they're formula is different from the coloured clays. IF you don't want to contaminate your oven get those cheap aluminum baking trays and cover the top with aluminum foil. It will smell, but you can cover the creature in cornstarch/ baby powder and then you can dunk it in cold water and it will wash off. I always do that and it's fine!
Preheat it, or better yet, put it at a low temperature like 110 degrees celsius. Less chance of getting it burned. But of course, you should always let it preheat. There are plenty of ways. [link] A very helpful site that gives you a lot of info. Well worth the time to read it!
