Ocean's Line by KatherineReedKS Ocean's Line by KatherineReedKS
I love the color of this little guy! The blue is so beautiful that the picture hardly does it justice! This little bowl is only 2 inches tall and was meant to be used as a glaze test. After seeing how awesome the color turned out I did the same thing to a pot that was about 7 inches tall and the sandy color turned more amber and the blue became more of a metallic blue/grey... I wasn't very happy with that.

Check out some of my other pottery!

Holy Crap! A DD!?!?! You guys are so awesome!!!

I really think this DD is funny because I've been using this pot to bake my sculpey projects in XD

Ooh! Nice. I used to do pottery. Had a glaze that turned out similar to that. It was awesome. Nice glaze. I should look through the rest of your gallery.

Thats awesome! Try putting different glazes on two different layers... I've found some of my most beautiful work is from the layer effect of glaze :)

Oh I know!!! Sometimes you get something beautifully bizarre.

:iconkatherinereedks:

And sometimes you get a nasty "wow, I wont do that again" type color XD but I think the good outweighs the bad :)

Most of the time, yeah. It also gets touchy sometimes applying clear glaze without firing the first layer of colored glaze first.

Do you dip your glazes or paint them on?

Dip, but some of our glazes run really bad for some reason. I dunno why.

Find out what glazes run then after you have a stable glaze on the whole pot, put the runny one dipped from the rim to about half way... some runny glazes can pick up the color of the glaze underneath and create interesting patterns :)

Very nice.
Could you tell us what the clay body is? Glaze names/types? Oxidation or reduction?

Thanks! Its a ^6 B-mix clay. The Glaze's were not bought as premade but rather was mixed in the studio. It was fired in Oxidation :)

I agree, the colors on this piece has to be one of my favorite. Too bad when the same technique is used on a larger piece it doesn't look as nice.

Yeah, I'm thinking that when the blue is more spread out it isn't as nice so I can do it on a larger piece but it still has to be a somewhat small line.
